Thanks to the quality of its research facilities and the critical mass of expertise it possesses, the COPL offers exceptional university training in optics-photonics. Graduating an average of 50 students (Master’s and PhD) per year, COPL has confirmed its reputation as a training center of excellence, both in Canada and internationally.

Texturation de surfaces métalliques par laser – Projet en collaboration avec l’industrie

Le projet de recherche proposé est au cœur du développement technologique de Laserax. Il porte sur la texturation de surfaces métalliques par laser. Cette technologie présente plusieurs avantages par rapport aux méthodes conventionnelles utilisant divers types d’abrasifs ; peu de maintenance, pas de consommables. La texturation par laser permet notamment un contrôle accru et précis des propriétés de la surface. Il est en effet possible d’améliorer les performances d’adhésion de divers enduits de surfaces telles les colles ou les peintures. Le projet de recherche proposé portera sur l’intégration robotisée de divers procédés de traitement de surface par laser.

We explore the application of machine learning techniques for high capacity optical communications. We seek a postdoctoral fellow responsible for the design and implementation of machine learning algorithms in optical communication systems. We will test, characterize and run system experiments on optical communication systems built in our laboratory. Interested candidates should have a solid background in machine learning and basic knowledge in communication theory.

Communication et métrologie quantique sur fibre optique spéciale

Un des objectifs de la nouvelle Chaire de recherche à l’ÉTS vise à contribuer au développement de nouveaux dispositifs photoniques (sources, capteurs, fibres, etc) et méthodes pour les domaines des communications quantiques et de la métrologie quantique. La/le candidat(e) participera activement sur un ou plusieurs projets en lien avec cette thématique de recherche en mettant à profit les multiples fibres optiques spéciales, lasers et instruments optiques permettant de générer, transmettre et mesurer les faisceaux vortex et leurs états quantiques. Imagerie infrarouge hyperspectrale

L’objectif de ce sujet de recherche est de développer une solution intégrée basée sur les microbolomètres permettant de réaliser de l’imagerie hyperspectrale sans composant de discrimination spectrale externe tel qu’un spectromètre ou un interféromètre. Les travaux consisteront à concevoir, simuler, fabriquer et caractériser des filtres spectraux au niveau pixel à base de micro/nanostructures qui permettent d’échantillonner les spectres infrarouges de manière suffisamment dense sur la matrice de microbolomètres afin de permettre l’utilisation d’algorithmes de reconstruction d’image hyperspectrales.
