The COPL, in partnership with Optonique, has secured pre-approved funding of up to $2.5 million as part of a 2-year, 166-unit Acceleration framework proposal from Mitacs.
This initiative aims to foster research and innovation collaborations between COPL member academic institutions and partners in the optics and photonics field, in order to stimulate the development of highly qualified talent in this sector.

Speech contest: Showcase Your Research Project in 5 Minutes
Virtual Student Symposium, Tuesday, March 19th, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM
The speech contest organized by COPL aims to provide a platform for student members to present their research projects developed during their graduate studies.
In the form of a friendly competition, speakers are invited to present the context of their research, objectives, methodology, results, and next steps within a 5-minute timeframe. It’s suggested to use visual support and to highlight the fields of application of the research object.
Following the presentation, 2 minutes will be dedicated to audience questions.
The 2 speakers who stand out for the quality, content and relevance of their presentation will receive a prize awarded by industrial collaborators, EXFO company and Institut national d’optique (INO).
1st place – $500 (EXFO)
2nd place – $300 (INO)
Award recipients will benefit from visibility on the COPL website and LinkedIn page (announcement of finalists and possible rebroadcast of the presentation).

Le ProgFest est une formation qui vise à fournir des connaissances et des outils en programmation utiles pour résoudre des problèmes scientifiques, spécifiquement liés aux domaines de la physique et du génie physique. Cette formation se déroulera sur trois jours lors de la relâche universitaire 2024. Inside Quantum Technology Canada
This event is Canada’s Quantum Computing Event, focusing on Ecosystems for Quantum Readiness. A number of vertical topics encompassing more than 30 panels and talks from over 80 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding on state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum ecosystems as well as the current impact of quantum computing technologies.
The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers and investors who are working on the current future developments of the quantum ecosystem. IQT Canada is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, INTRIQ, and the Governments of both Canada and Quebec. The June conference will be an “in-person” event to ensure maximum networking and discussion and will take place at Centre Mont-Royal in Montréal (Québec), Canada.

Symposiums virtuels étudiants du COPL
Le mardi 5 avril prochain à 12h, le réseau étudiant du COPL tiendra une conférence sur le thème « découvrez mon milieu de recherche en 5 minutes » qui mettra en vedette les membres étudiants. Les conférenciers et conférencières doivent présenter en 5 minutes, dans la langue de leur choix entre l’anglais ou le français, le projet de recherche sur lequel ils ou elles travaillent. Chaque miniconférence sera suivie d’une période de questions de 5 minutes. La discussion pourra aussi porter sur les problématiques rencontrées afin de susciter des discussions pouvant aider à la résolution de difficultés ou sur les capacités expérimentales des laboratoires pouvant être utiles à d’autres membres du COPL. Cette initiative vise à faire connaître les expertises de chacun, stimuler la synergie entre laboratoires et favoriser l’innovation dans la façon d’aborder des problèmes scientifiques.
