The 17th edition of the Photonics Games continues to captivate and stimulate young people’s curiosity, year after year

Since its creation, COPL has been actively involved in promoting the science of light. Its initiatives, which aim to raise the profile of this enabling discipline, cover the entire educational and scientific spectrum, thereby contributing to the renewable cycle of research and innovation. From sparking scientific curiosity in young people to training the next generation in graduate programs, to recognizing graduates who have become experts, COPL energizes the optics and photonics ecosystem.
On October 27 and 28, 2025, the 17th edition of the Photonics Games was held, an annual event supported by COPL and designed to introduce optics to high school students. Through a friendly competition hosted by Université Laval, some 300 young people had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the science of light. Through stimulating challenges involving laser beams, optical assemblies composed of mirrors and prisms, and even an infrared camera, participants were able to experiment with the principles of optics in a hands-on way while developing their scientific curiosity.
Needless to say, it was a veritable kaleidoscope of activities, energy, and wonder.
Congratulations to all the volunteers and partners who made this initiative possible!
