The week of June 1, 2026, was marked by the excitement of Quebec’s and Canada’s photonics communities, which gathered in Quebec City

The COPL team is very proud of the achievements that marked this festive period for the Quebec and Canadian photonics communities, which gathered in Quebec City for the COPL Annual Conference (June 1) and Photonics North (June 2–5).

This event was particularly enriched by the presence of experts—international stars in the field of photonics—who delivered captivating presentations on scientific advances and their impact, illustrating how these innovations are shaping trends and practices within end-user communities.

A well-deserved tribute to our renowned speakers for their remarkable contributions.

Michal Lipson, who generously shared her knowledge during her presentation titled “The Revolution of Silicon Photonics.”

Keiichi Nakagawa, who remained completely focused despite the fire alarm that went off in the pavilion and delivered an excellent presentation on “Ultrafast single-shot imaging of light-matter interactions and its applications for medical ultrasounds.”

José Manuel Luque González, who captivated the audience with his presentation titled “Harnessing light propagation in silicon photonics chips with periodic structures.”

Not to mention the distinguished S. J. Ben Yoo, who agreed to present his work on “3D Silicon Photonic-Electronic Integrated Circuits toward future AI and high-performance computing systems.”
