François Légaré, professor at INRS, and his team have won Québec Science’s 2024 Discovery of the Year Public Award for a major breakthrough in radiotherapy. Using lasers and ambient air, they have succeeded in generating electron beams capable of destroying cancerous tumors, a feat previously considered impossible. This discovery simplifies the “FLASH” approach to radiotherapy, avoiding the need for complex vacuum chamber systems.
