\u00c9cole Polytechnique de Montr\u00e9al is one of the largest engineering schools in Canada and remains the first in Quebec in terms of the number of students and the size of its research budgets. Polytechnique provides quality engineering education at all levels with an emphasis on human values and a focus on the needs of industry and society. The main language of instruction is French.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c9cole de technologie sup\u00e9rieure (\u00c9TS)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Montreal<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The \u00c9cole de technologie sup\u00e9rieure (\u00c9TS) trains engineers. Since its creation in 1974, \u00c9TS has maintained close ties with industry. Through partnerships with companies of all sizes, \u00c9TS is able to offer graduate programs based on the needs of companies and the professionals who work for them. In fact, many Master’s and doctoral projects can be carried out in collaboration with an external partner. \u00c9TS graduate programs are also intended for future researchers who wish to learn about the research and development process and contribute to the advancement of scientific and technological knowledge. They also meet the needs of working professionals who want to deepen their knowledge. The language of instruction is French.<\/span><\/p>\n

Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Headquartered in Quebec City<\/em>
\nCentre \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications located in Varennes and Montreal<\/em><\/p>\n

The Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is dedicated exclusively to graduate level research and training. Since its creation in 1969, INRS has focussed on interdisciplinarity, innovation and excellence. INRS is composed of four thematic and interdisciplinary research and training centers: Water, Earth and Environment; Urbanization, Culture and Society; Health and Biotechnology; and Energy, Materials and Telecommunications. It is in this last center where optics-photonics research is located.<\/p>\n

The Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke stands out for the strong growth of its research activities, its successful technology transfers, and its initiatives in entrepreneurship and innovation offered in collaboration with the industrial and social communities. It has 31,000 students and offers instruction in French.

Universit\u00e9 Laval<\/b><\/h3>\n

Quebec city<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Universit\u00e9 Laval has been training specialists in optics-photonics for nearly 60 years. It has a critical mass of professor-researchers whose expertise covers all facets of the discipline. Laval is also home to the only building entirely dedicated to university research in optics in Canada. This infrastructure is also equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories. A team of experienced technicians supervises the research activities of some 150 Master’s and PhD students. Universit\u00e9 Laval offers an incomparable training experience whose reputation extends beyond the borders of Quebec and Canada. It ranks 7th among the largest research universities in Canada. The language of instruction is French. However, with the agreement of their research supervisor, students may choose to perform their work in English.<\/span><\/p>\n
